Shun the Puns
People usually have a sarcastic or a humorous side to them. And especially in a work place, you will find numerous people who would be funny in one way or the other. Such people usually use a lot of word and sentences with a hidden meaning or pun in them. They might not intend to be rude to someone but these puns can actually make things awkward for people. The person on the receiving end might not understand and take the pun in a wrong and offending way. Thus, it is important that when you are in a official and professional setting and environment, you maintain a level of sophistication and avoid any thing or word that can create controversies. You can be humorous but make sure to keep it subtle and avoid any joke that can be interpreted in a wrong way. So just shun the puns.
One more minute please
Isn’t it a daily routine that you switch off your alarm clock, keep snoozing your alarm on the cell-phone and keep asking your mother to let you sleep for just one more minute? I am sure this is true to most of the people. You might party all night long and you might not feel sleepy while watching James Bond movies on your computer the entire night. But the morning sleep is dear to all. I actually know people who would give up on even crores of rupees for just getting that one minute sleep in the morning. You know you have to get up and you know that one minute is not going to make up for the three sleepless nights, but every morning you will just find saying these words, “One More Minute Please”.
Office Parties
It is a new trend and a new fad, where in every office and every organization organizes official get together and parties for their employees. Awards, recognitions, bonuses and profit sharing are all given during a big event. Some people hate going and attending these office parties but they have to realize the significance and importance of the same. It is one such place, where all the employees and executives of the organization are gathered together at one time. It is an amazing communication and socializing ground for everyone. One can build contacts and leave impressions on all the higher level executives of the firm. It is also a platform, where one can show the best in them to people in a comfortable and easier manner. So, people should never run away from these office parties and should treat as building blocks of their career paths.
Matching Times
You might enter the conference room and be fired by your boss for coming fifteen minutes late. And you will keep wondering for the rest of the meeting about the reason your boss was mad because your watch confirmed that you were on time or probably a couple of minutes before time. To your dismay, you will later realize that the reason behind the yelling can be not you being late but the difference in the time shown by the watch worn by you, your boss and the office wall. Some people keep their wrist watches a few minutes slower and few keep them faster. And both can lead you into trouble. Hence, you should match the time with the time being shown in the office watch to make sure you avoid all the timely mistakes at your work place.
Managing the desk
Your desk is what is yours in your office. And hence it is extremely crucial that you manage and organize your desk well. A shattered and unorganized desk portrays a bad impression of you as a professional. The first thing you need to do to manage your desk is to make and allocate space for everything. Your files, paper, computer, stapler, stationary and every other thing should have a particular place. It will be then easier for you to keep, as well as find things in the future. You can also put pictures and motivational printouts on your board. This will give a livelier feel to your working environment and space. You should also make a note of all your work and a calendar handy so that you don’t forget any important work. Managing desk everyday will take a few minutes but can really save hours of hassle.
